How do I set a Goal and create a Funnel of Focus?
Follow these steps to create a goal and optionally set up a Funnel of Focus.
Step 1 — Create your goal
Click Goals in the navigation menu, then click + Add Goal.
Fill in the four fields:
- Life Area — choose the area of life this goal belongs to
- Goal — give your goal a clear, specific name
- Success Criteria — describe exactly how you will know you have achieved it
- Purpose — write down why this goal genuinely matters to you
- Obstacles — be honest about what is currently stopping you
Set a Target Date — this is when you want to have achieved the goal by.
Step 2 — Add a starting point (recommended)
Scroll down to the Measuring the Path section. If your goal is measurable with a number (weight, income, number of clients, steps per day), enter:
- Starting Point — a description of where you are now
- Starting Value — the numeric value you are starting from
- Target Value — the numeric value you want to reach
These values unlock automatic calculation of your Funnel of Focus targets and give you a real progress bar based on gap closure rather than just habit completion.
Also set your Review Cadence — monthly or quarterly — depending on how long your goal is.
Click Create Goal.
Step 3 — Add a Funnel of Focus (optional)
On the goal detail page, click + Add Funnel in the Funnel of Focus section.
If you set numeric baseline and target values, the interval targets will be pre-populated automatically based on your goal duration and the gap between your start and end point. You can edit any value if you want to adjust them.
Fill in the Daily Action field — this is the most important one. It describes the specific thing you need to do every day to stay on track (e.g. "2 new client calls", "500 calorie deficit").
Click Create Funnel.
Step 4 — Link your projects and habits
Back on the goal detail page, use + Link Project and + Link Habit to connect your existing projects and habits to this goal. When you link a habit, you can optionally connect it to your Funnel daily target.
Step 5 — Review regularly
Use the + Add Review button in the sidebar to write a periodic review. Update your current value, note what is working and what is not, and set your next review date. Your Ninja Sensei will remind you when a review is overdue.
